A grant from the United Kingdom Foods Standards Agency (FSA) funded a five year study into the prevalence and incidence of food allergies in children.
A birth cohort of babies born between 1st September 2001 and 31st August 2002 was recruited and followed-up until three years of age. Ninety-one percent of the mothers approached agreed to take part in the study. In addition, all children living on the Isle of Wight, aged 6, 11 and 15 years, were approached to complete questionnaires on food related problems and undergo skin prick testing in their schools.
The results of this study have now been published and funding has been secured to follow-up the birth cohort (969 children), commencing in 2011.
